I knew pretty early in life that I would leave my small town one day. In 2012, I boarded a plane to Los Angeles – just two weeks after my 21st birthday.
When I arrived at LAX and I felt the hot air in my face, I knew that this was the right place for me. In Germany, my life had been pretty unspectacular. I had tried working in German television and had completed a vocational degree but things just didn’t seem to work out for me. All my free time was spent watching American television and planning my great getaway.
So I applied to Santa Monica College as a public relations and mass communications major and I’ve been studying ever since. This turned out to be the best decision I have ever made. However, I had somewhat of an identity crisis in what I want to study, so while public relations and journalism is still dear to my heart, I decided to join the Art field. Because who wants to make money, right? Just kidding, of course! I’ve finished my studies at Santa Monica College and I am now in my Junior year, completing my Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History at California State University, Channel Islands.
When I first came to California, I wasn’t expecting things to go the way they did. I had been single for 3 years and wasn’t looking for anyone because I had never been a relationship person. All I cared about was following my dream and working in “the industry” (as the Angelenos call it).
However, things changed drastically when I met Justin one fateful evening at a karaoke bar in Koreatown. We fell in love and got married in Las Vegas in May 2013. And with Justin comes my own American family who shows me all the American traditions I have longed for in Germany.
Now, I’ve been in Los Angeles for almost 4 years, I have my permanent residency card and I’m following my many interests. This blog will focus on all the things, that I encounter along the way of making it big in the city of dreams. I just haven’t quite figured out how.. 😉 This should be interesting!
